Blog Entry 12: The Meatrix Summaries

   In the Meatrix part one, Moopheus Enlightens Leo about what's really going on farms. The farms that use to belong to the people, They all now belong to corporations. These corporation look to profit to the max from these lands by cramming as many animals into small cages. These small, unhealthy environments cause many of the animals to become sick, so the corp injects them with various antibodies and chemicals. Also Due to the large amounts of livestock to space ratio, the fecal in very concentrated. It causes environmental damages to the earth and to the few communities that live near these factories. But not to worry, Leo has joined Moopheus in the cause to stop this madness!
    So far, 2 years later. Leo, Moopheus and his gang has been fighting the good fight. The people are becoming more and more aware of what they eat. But their fight is far from compete. Leo, Moopheus, and Chikity jack into the Meatrix. Leo is surprise by how nice the farms are all around, but moopheus quickly shows leo the hard truth, that what leo saw was just the past. Cows are being raise by machines, and are being injected with Artificial hormones that have already been banned in Canada and Europe. Their calves are fed the blood of dead cows, which may cause mad cow disease, and various other disease. Leo and co. are found out by the agents, they put up the good fight, but moopheus has been kidnapped!
   Leo, and Chikity are on their way to rescue moopheus, who is being held at a slaughter house, owned by the corporation, it's huge and packed with machinery, to process meat as fast as possible(over 5000 cows per day). The processing plant to moving so fast (to maximize profit) that feces is being flug all over the place. All the fecal matter is just screaming E.coli. Moopheus at ends, is rescued by leo and chikity just in the nick of time, and defeating the agent. The trio head off to fight the tough fight.

Blog Entry 10: Influence of Film (Revision)

   In the article "Imitation of Film: Here's Smoking at You, Kid." by Nicholas Balakar, Balakar explains how movies and their actors/actresses can easily influence the actions of young teens, and pre-teens. In this case, Balakar is worried that performers who smoke on the big screen, may cause teens that watch these films to imitate the habit of smoking. Teens can easily be influenced by their peers, especially when their peers are famous actors/actresses, or performers; It's their job for these entertainers to capture the audience, be the center of attention, and the kids that look up to them as roll models, may mimic their action or behavior without knowing what their doing is right or wrong.
   As a kid growing up, one person I have looked up to would be Jeff Hardy. Jeff is a Pro-Wrestler, an entertainer. He was the cool wild type, who would put out everything in him to entertain the fans. Only recently he was fired from his job, because of a drug related issue. I was really in shock and disappointed. Someone who I've looked up too, who I thought was invincible. I can't begin to imagine what It must of felt like to let down the millions of fans around the world.
   Another person I look up to, Bill Goldberg(a pro-wrestler as well.) A couple years ago, Goldberg (Who was on hiatus) returned, because he wanted to do what he loved again. But just recently, he had quit he job. His excuse was he didn't like contents of the show. He felt it was not appropriate for his audiences and his fans, and felt his character was influencing his fans in a negative tone.
   When young kids can't find someone close to look up to as a roll model, they look up to strangers like movie stars, singers, or athletes. We don't know them personality, but they appear in the news all the time. The kids don't know why they are on tv, but it must be cool to be on tv, so the kids admire them.

   After analyzing the class readings and watching The Truman Show, I feel the world is revolves around mass media, the internet, and consumerism. I think we are at a point where we can no longer go back, I think we cannot survive without the internet, the media, to buy the latest brands, to know what our favorite celebs are doing.
   In the Truman Show, there many instants where they mocked reality tv, like when the character in the show would advertise some product

Blog Entry 7: Reflection on Series 1

    I've learn how to take notes of my reading, how to extract the main ideas of the author, and organize these ideas by summerizing an authors overall main ideas. I've learned how to create my own opinions, and how to back them up with proof, together helping me create a thesis statement and respond to a reading with my own essay.     

Before I've never really though on how to write essays, and had trouble on how to respond to an essay with my own opinions. Although It's still a bit difficult to sort out my own thoughts, I think I have a better idea on how to generate an opinion on something. I had trouble coming up with reason/proof for my opinions for a while, but now I feel pretty confident in it. If I can't come up with some good reason for my opinion, I would rethink my opinion and whether or not I truly understand it and agree with it.    

 I feel I can create a Thesis statement easily, but  I like to learn how to create a more complex thesis statement.     

After Learning how to generate my opinions and how to create a thesis statement I think I can write much more sound. I've never liked writing, I still don't, but I feel tons more comfortable writing now.

Blog Entry 6. Essay 2 "I Know the Truth"

In " I Know the Truth, So Don't Bother Me with Facts", The author Jeffrey Kluger believes humans are easily deceived by rumors and lies. R.Kelly Garret and Nisbet assistant professors, were surprised at how easily people's beliefs are swayed by suggestive and vague images. Even on case where evidence is presented contradicting what a person may believe, less than a third are willing to compromise. Garrett cites a body of studies showed that when subjects are presented with evidence that contradicts their beliefs, the subjects often stick to their biases even more so. R.Kelly Garrett's research is right, people don't like being told they are wrong, because we don't like being told we are and unintelligent, and lose face in front of peers, we'll deny the truth until we get something that's comfortable.
     People don't like being told what to do, or what's right and wrong. I think It's because we don't like being looked down upon, discriminated, or be seen as lacking of knowledge. We're like lions, proud creatures, stubborn and become aggressive when in a state of vulnerability. It's in our nature to defend ourselves when backed into a corner.
     Denial is a way for people to defend themselves from a truth that someone just can't face, so we deny. People can become very stubborn and hostile when in denial, Not much much be done when someone is in this state. It's so easy to be in denial, once we're in this state no one can intrude on this little space.
    If you truly want the knowledge, respect from your peer and from yourself, you have to be willing to make compromise, willing to face the cold hard truth and go beyond our comfort zone, learn from our mistakes and from our success. Only then can we achieve our goals, our dreams.
